  • In the UK, you need a Firearm Certificate (FAC) to legally own a rifle. The application process involves background checks, providing valid reasons for ownership, and secure storage arrangements.

  • You apply for an FAC through your local police force. The process includes completing an application form, undergoing a background check, providing references, and an inspection of your firearm storage.

  • Legal rifles in the UK include bolt-action, lever-action and single-shot rifles. Fully automatic rifles are prohibited, and semi-automatic rifles are restricted to .22 caliber rimfire models.

  • You can practice at licensed shooting ranges and clubs. Many clubs offer facilities for different disciplines, such as target shooting, bench rest shooting, or practical rifle shooting.

  • Yes, but you must comply with strict transportation laws, including ensuring the firearm is unloaded, securely stored and inaccessible during transit. Your FAC must be with you at all times.

  • Yes, suppressors are legal in the UK but require specific approval on your Firearm Certificate. They are often granted for noise reduction during hunting or target shooting.
