Dom Holtam tries out these slick shooting sticks, available in bipod or tripod version, and finds the innovative one-handed adjustment to be a very useful feature

The Rifleman from UK Shoot Warehouse is a sturdy yet lightweight shooting stick that is available in a bipod or tripod version, and we’ve been having a play with the latter.
The integral one-hand operation height adjustment system is the key feature here, allowing instant and quiet height adjustment, even on uneven terrain, with a simple squeeze on the trigger. The rubberised hand grip is nicely designed while the V-yoke rotates through a full 360 degrees so you can pan to follow a moving target.
Although I do like a quad stick for longer standing shots, at close quarters and on targets such as muntjac that are likely to be busy and on the move, a bipod or tripod type is quicker to deploy, more than sufficiently stable for a shot out to 100 yards and, in this instance, very slick to pan and adjust.
The sticks can be set up very tall and the legs can also splay very wide, which is useful for some situations but can be a little bit fiddly at other times. I wonder if a soft ‘stop’ at a pre-determined width would make rapid deployment a bit easier?

Shooting sticks not only assist in taking a more stable, accurate shot from standing (or kneeling), they can considerably reduce fatigue in arms and shoulders during long sessions in the field, allowing you to keep your rifle to hand and use the other for calling (be it foxes, roe or muntjac).
Rifleman shooting sticks boast a detachable V-yoke and fully integrated mounting screw to secure cameras, spotting scopes, binoculars, laser rangefinders and almost any other tripod mountable device. Spare rubber feet and yokes are available to buy should you lose or damage them.
At £80 for the two-legged version and £95 for this tripod, the Rifleman is very competitively priced.
