I really struggle with ‘pulling’ shots when shooting on the range. Any tips on how to avoid that?
Q: I really struggle with ‘pulling’ shots when shooting on the range. Any tips on how to avoid that?
DOM HOLTAM replies: My first thought would be to have your trigger looked at. Some guns come with pretty heavy pulls of 7-8lbs and if the trigger is also a bit ‘creepy’ getting a decent and consistent release will be hard.
Some triggers are adjustable and there are some aftermarket upgrade kits for others. A lighter, crisper release will improve accuracy and consistency.
Of course, good technique is just as important and premeditating the shot, flinching or poor trigger control will also have an impact. Check out Andrew Venables’ advice on how to hold the rifle properly to make sure you are doing your part.
