A new advanced qualification in deer management has been launched to provide a unified benchmark for professional stalkers across the UK.
The Deer Management Certificate Level 3 (DMC3), introduced on 9 November, represents the highest level of vocational qualification available in the sector, bringing together learning pathways from organisations including BASC, the British Deer Society, LANTRA, the National Gamekeepers Organisation and the Shooting & Hunting Academy.
.
The qualification is open to holders of either PDSC2 or DSC2 and comprises four units covering knowledge, practical skills and strategic management.
Candidates must demonstrate academic achievement through higher-level qualifications, prove field competence across multiple deer species including both invasive and non-invasive populations, and submit a deer management plan demonstrating strategic thinking.
.
Peter S Jones, founder and chief executive officer of the Shooting & Hunting Academy, said: “The DMC3 isn’t just a qualification, it’s a unified standard that recognises professional capability. For the first time, it brings together qualifications and experience from all respected training providers under one recognised framework.”
The qualification aims to provide landowners, employers and conservation organisations with a reliable measure of professional expertise beyond Level 2 certification.
