A bag with plenty of room for everything you may need tor a full day of hard hunting in subzero conditions

When I headed to the Alps recently I was advised to pack plenty of layers and make sure I had a decent backpack. Most of my hunting packs are small – enough for a waterproof, a camera and a snack. But here I would be taking cold weather gear, spare clothes in case we stayed up the mountain in a different hunting hut, cameras and lenses, snacks, drink – everything I might need for a full day of hard hunting in subzero conditions.

I decided to take the Special Ops pack from Viper Tactical. A 45-litre day bag, it was just the right size for my requirements. It features three zipped compartments and the main compartment has a hydration system pocket with a hole for the feeder tube.

There is a quick-release belt strap to help take some weight on the hips and I liked the compacting straps on the sides that allow you to reduce the size of the pack when it isn’t full.

It is available in three colours: black, green and VCam. I opted for the latter as the mottled colour scheme would work well in the rocky mountain landscape and not stand out too much if it snowed, which it did!

RRP: £54.95
