Proceeds from the Castle Theatre Company’s performance of As You Like It will go to the Suffolk branch of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT). GWCT is one of the UK’s leading wildlife research charities. Its recent high-profile work has included projects to investigate salmon population decline, track the movements of the elusive woodcock by satellite tagging and identify the best ways to protect vulnerable natural resources across Europe.
The Suffolk Foundation, which supports local charities and community groups throughout the county, will also benefit.
The Castle Theatre Company promises that the event will be “a wonderfully atmospheric and utterly English evening of pastoral comedy”. As You Like It features Rosalind, one of Shakespeare’s best-loved female characters, and introduced such phrases as “too much of a good thing” and “thereby hangs a tale” to the English language, as well as the celebrated soliloquy “All the world’s a stage.”
The gardens at Glemham Hall will be open for picnics from 5pm, with the two-and-a-half hour performance beginning at 7pm. Tickets purchased in advance are priced at £20 per head for adults and £12 for under 20s, discounted to £18 and £10 respectively for groups of 10 or more.
