Classed as a non-native, invasive species, muntjac have spread quickly since their introduction in the early 1900s, and certain areas of the UK are now rather overpopulated with these dimunitive deer.
Along with being responsible for some 40,000 plus car accidents (resulting in the deaths of roughly 20 people), muntjac can have a damaging effect on local flora, crops and, in particular, newly planted trees.
According to an article on the BASC website, in 2021, Forestry England reported £4.5 million worth of deer damage in 2021, which highlights the vital control work deer managers like Chris Rogers undertake to keep the populations of all UK deer species at an acceptable level.
In the video above, Chris Rogers heads out to try and reduce the muntjac numbers on the Euston Estate, before the cover gets any higher and these small deer become even harder to locate. If you want to watch deer management in action at its absolute best, you should enjoy watching this muntjac stalking video!
